Born and raised on the East Coast, I have always had an affinity for sea food.  When I chose to come to the University of Denver, I knew that fresh fish would be my greatest sacrifice.  I must admit, being land-locked can make me a pretty cranky girl, and I'm not easily satisfied by the abundance of Mexican and American foods available around campus.  So what do I do when I need to remember the feeling of living by the ocean? I travel a short distance to Pearl St. to check out what my favorite sushi chefs are up to! Not only does Sushi Den offer a variety of sushi platters and rolls, it offers a plethora of Chinese and Japanese dishes.  The Zagat Survey ranks Sushi Den as one of the most prestigious sushi restaurants not only in Denver, but in the United States.  Everyday Sushi Den flies in fish from the city of Fukuoka on Kyushu Island.  HOW FRESH IS THAT? Sushi Den sets the standard for high quality sushi.  Sorry competitors - We will... we will... ROCK YOU!

1. House Roll (Eel & Avocado) - There is nothing to fear eel is here! Now I know what many of you are thinking - Eel NO WAY JOSE! But trust me as your sushi expert - eel is amazing, and if you don't try this roll... honestly you are missing out.  So suck up your pride and just give it a chance!            
2. Lobster Tempura Roll - Whenever I choose a tempura roll, I'll be frank - I pick the shrimp tempura roll. Why? Because it is less expensive and who can tell the difference with that fried goodness.  My perception changed the other day when I took a chance and spent the 2 extra bucks on the lobster!  It is far more tasty than the other rolls, so if you want to splurge - this roll is all it takes to fill you up at lunchtime!
3. Spicy Tuna Roll - A classic favorite! Sushi Den does it right - ask them to add jalapenos for an extra punch!

Jordan's Bistro & Pub- Not Only A Great Happy Hour . . . But The Home of my Favorite DU Buffalo Wings!

Now I know how many of you out there take your wings very seriously, but let me assure you I have tried them all! On Thanksgiving Day in Amsterdam I ordered Buffalo Wings instead of turkey at The Hard Rock Cafe.. That is how much I love them!  While Buffalo Wild Wings is an obvious choice for many, it is simply too far from campus.  Who wants to jump on I-25 for lunch break (not me)!  Most restaurants around campus have added wings to their menu since student demand for buffalo wings has exploded! While I used to recommend Smugs on Evans as the place to go, it has sadly gone out of business.  Since that travesty, Jordan's has positioned itself in my mind as the clear winner for the best buffalo wings at DU.  Jordan's  Bistro & Pub is an old fashioned Irish pub located a minutes walk from Daniel's College of Business.  Jordan's doesn't just have buffalo wings, they have all sorts of pub-style options including burgers, pizzas, salads, sandwiches, and much more!  So why did I choose to tell you about Jordan's wings? Because most people do not realize just how great they are!  I rate my wings on a defined grading criteria.  See Below!

Lauren's Requirements for Outstanding Buffalo Wings

1. Hot has to mean HOT HOT HOT! - I love spicy food, so if you tell me your wings are hot.. THEY BETTER BE! (For those who don't enjoy so much spice, Jordan's offers a variety of flavored wings).

2. They better be crispy - There is nothing better than a dozen crispy buffalo wings.  I am so tired of breaded and soggy wings.. I want to be able to pierce my teeth through the wing's crispy surface.  Eating wings is half the fun! Jordan's wings are CRISPY!

3. Blue Cheese is a REQUIREMENT - While many people now replace blue cheese with ranch dressing (which is fine if that what floats your boat) Buffalo Wings were originally made to be with  blue cheese. They are two peas in a pod! Jordan's has blue cheese and ranch!

Looking for that old fashioned hamburger that melts in your mouth? Or maybe you have a terrible hangover and need a greasy fix? Look no further than Park Burger.  Located on Pearl St. just a few blocks from Sushi Den, you can divulge your senses into a truly delectable burger!  Park Burger is casual and fun!  It's the perfect environment for a college students looking to grab a quick lunch and drink.  Park Burger makes its patties from all natural ingredients - fresh ground beef, buffalo meat, and homemade veggie burgers! For those looking for a healthier option, whole wheat buns are available too!  Make sure to try some of Park Burger's sides!
